Flat Head, Helmet, & Torticollis - Most Common Causes and What You Can Do About It

In this video from Dr. Andrew, you will learn the causes of torticollis and plagiocephaly (flat head), how to get to the root of it all, and tips to help! Here’s a sneak peek: Did you know that one of the most common and often overlooked causes of these issues is birth trauma?! The amount of physical strain, tension, and pulling placed on a baby’s head and neck during birth is significant!

Interventions such as forceps delivery, vacuum extraction, and c-sections are sometimes necessary to get your baby out, but can leave them with structural and neurological struggles.

Thankfully, today, many parents do just as you are right now, exploring other options for plagiocephaly to work alongside traditional medical recommendations of helmet therapy, physical therapy, and so forth.

The typical advice to just ‘wait and see’ is missing the mark on this, as this issue will only get worse with age! Even worse, we see babies who struggle with torticollis and plagiocephaly are often also dealing with colic, reflux, and sleep issues. If the underlying cause isn’t addressed, the same stress will continue to worsen and lead to older kids struggling with anxiety, sensory challenges, ADHD, & more!

We encourage you to keep looking beyond those traditional options until you find the ones that truly do get to the root cause. Watch this video to find out more and if you have any other questions, we are happy to help!
