Can You Catch a Cold from Cold Weather?

Can you “catch a cold” from cold weather?

I know, I know… your grandma always said it, so it has to be true!

But if we stop and think about it, does that really make sense? What is really going on with “cold and flu” season that is about to be upon us?

When the seasons start to change and the sun is hard to find we end up spending a lot less time outside. No sun means our already poor vitamin D levels get even worse… which means a weakened immune system. The defenses are down!

At the same time many of the family walks, hikes, and other outdoor activities become more and more rare. Less exercise and fresh air = weakened immune system.

Add to that situation an onslaught of Halloween candy. As soon as the candy supply starts to dwindle there is a blur of Thanksgiving pies that quickly become a steady stream of Christmas cookies. What do you think all of this extra junk food and sugar does to our bodies?! You guessed it – weakened immune system.

We could go on and on about the other stresses that hit this time of year (buying Christmas presents, holiday parties, and so on) but I think you get the picture.

So maybe cold and flu season would be better labeled “failure to adapt” season.

woman with coldAlthough all of that is quite the recipe for sickness and struggle, the good news is that all you have to do is reverse it and you have a blueprint for health and vitality!

Skip the Halloween candy, have one less Christmas cookie, and try to take all the craziness in stride. Most of all, make sure your stress system is at 100%! If you’re not already under chiropractic care, schedule a scan and let’s see how you’re doing.

Let us help you survive this season of the year and Kick the Sick for good!
